Tyler's Playlist, Part One

The other day.....a Miles Davis song came on while I was playing an Apple Music in my office.

What does my mind turn to when Miles comes on?

Yes, you're right.  Tyler.

More than any cat I've owned, Tyler loved music.

Human music.

I've read some studies that suggest that cats don't care much for human music, and perhaps that's true.

Not my Tyler.  He loved human tunes.

Ever since I listened to my first song at....who knows how young, my music tastes have been varied and eclectic.  From Beethoven to Metallica, and everything in between, I listen to it all.  Naturally, having spent 14 of his 15 years with me, Tyler got exposed to a lot of music over the years.  Tyler definitely reacted to the music I would listen to.  Not all cats do, indeed none of the cats that have "owned me" since Tyler ever had quite the same reaction as he did when I would blast music in our home.

Different types of music would get different types of reactions out of him.  Jazz would help him relax, my love of movie scores would get a head-but and rubs, while playful, upbeat pop and hard rock would set him off on one of his famous "shit fits" throughout the house.

Here are some of Tyler's favorite tracks, in YouTube form, of course!

1. Tyler's favorite Miles Davis track, Flamenco Sketches, from his iconic album Kind of Blue.  Tyler would always stop and listen to this song:

2. A track from the rejected score to Torn Curtain, by Bernard Herrmann.  Tyler would frequently purr to this clip:

3. Tyler even liked Devo.  This song would always get him to run and play, even as he got older.  This track is from their most recent album, Something for Everyone:

4. I've always loved Sinatra, and own nearly everything he ever recorded.  This playful track, Grenada,  would always get a "hoppity walk," Tyler's cue for "play with me NOW," out of him:

5. The last song Tyler and I listened to together in the summer of 2014, shortly before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  This is a beautiful song, The Western Sky, by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues:
