Tyler's 19th Birthday!
Tyler would have been 19 this coming Saturday, June 9th.
Nineteen.
Tyler would have been pushing TWENTY. That's really hard to fathom. I often wonder what life would be like if he was still around and had retained his health. I'm sure he would have been the same old Tyler, just an older, slower version. Still in charge. Still holding court.
So is June 9th his ACTUAL birthday?
I will never truly know.
I adopted him, as readers of this blog know, on December 9th, of 2000. I was told he was a 1.5 year old cat, so, I back-dated him to June 9th, 1999.
Therefore, he got an official birthday. I do that with all my cats.
Hard to believe you're gone almost 4 years. It's still not quite the same without you, but I know you're proud of the job Sophie is doing in your old slot as alpha cat. Sophie is about to approach senior-hood herself now that she's 8 years old, but shows no signs of slowing down so far. Then again, she's a lazy cat to begin with, so how am I going to tell? But seriously, she's very much the Alpha, despite all the changes since your last birthday. I wonder what you'd think of the colony that has been showing up for food since last fall? I'm sure you wouldn't have minded that much. I am still convinced you and Tucker would have become fast friends, dare I say you might have bonded with him almost as much as Tiger? I just get that feeling, after all, you both came from Little Shelter. I'm glad I was able to find out that Chloe, your first apprentice, is alive and well. Makes me happy to know that there is still a living connection to you.
How would you have gotten along with Minnie, who is probably as close to a kitten as I'll ever have in my household? I have no doubt that you'd probably do the feline version of roll your eyes at her if you knew her. Then again, as with Tucker, she reminds me SO MUCH of you that part of me thinks Minnie is you reincarnated.
One never knows.
Happy 19th birthday old man. Until I see you again.
