Six Months Later: In Search Of: Part 6

Image
In the blink of an eye, six months have now passed since Ronald became Tucker and Tucker became my cat. Just like that. Six months. Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it? Time also flies when you're the happiest cat in the world, and I dare you to find a happier house cat. Six months later and I could not imagine life without him. Six months later and it's like he's been here for six years. Tucker and I have as strong a bond as one could have with a cat, and that grows stronger every day. Every day, he's beyond happy to see me and can't wait to give me rubs, kisses, cuddles, and head-buts. Not a lap cat, huh? I defy you to say this boy is NOT a lap cat: Needless to say, having tucker "find me" as he did six months ago at Little Shelter was one of the best parts of 2017. Here's to a lifetime together.

Three years of Sophie!

Image
Tomorrow, August 17th, marks three years since Sophie came to live with me. Three years as the new boss cat.  The alpha cat extraordinaire.  I honestly could not have asked for a better successor to Tyler, as I've mentioned before.  Three years ago tomorrow, she popped out of her carrier, literally, and stormed into our lives. While Sophie remains the most difficult cat I've ever dealt with, the rough first few weeks/months were definitely worth it.  Today I simply cannot imagine life without her.  She's the matriarch, the center of my family, and she knows it.  No one loves more than Sophie, and no cat gives better hugs or purrs louder. She's my princess and I love her to pieces. Let's go back, once again,  to that day when I met her for the first time, shall we? Sunday, August 17th, 2014 A text popped up on my iPhone. “We’re outside.” She's here!  Ashley and I ran outside and met Lindsey, a skinny woman in Capri pants and ...

Sophie: The Kitten Years

What a find!  Sophie's former owner just sent me pics of Sophie as a kitten. These photos are.....in a word.....priceless. Behold.... Sophie: The Kitten Years!

Tucker's 4th Birthday!

Image
Tucker turns 4 this Tuesday, July 11th. Tucker, being another shelter cat from the same shelter I found Tyler, didn't have an actual birth date listed that the shelter was aware of.  Therefore, I back-dated the Tuck-man to July 11th, 2013.  This was, un-scientifically determined by the date he was brought into the shelter as a tiny kitten and fixed. Seemed fitting. So, from now on, July 11th, 2013 is Tucker's "official" birthday. So let it be written, so let be done.  Sorry Yul, I'm borrowing that one. Happy Birthday, little man.  I love you more than you can possibly know.  You've been my cat just a few months, but it feels like years in the best possible way.  Cats always choose their owners, and Tucker sure chose me when we first met at Little Shelter.  Since then, we've been inseparable.  When I get home, he runs to me and is thrilled to see me.  If I sit in my favorite chair, he curls up on my lap and falls asleep.   ...

The Sophie/Tucker Love Story

Image
Just like that, four months have gone by since Tucker came to live with me. Four months.  Crazy how time just flies, does it? It's already July.  In the blink of an eye, it'll be the holidays and we'll be shivering instead of schvitizing. Yes I used the word SCHVITZ in a blog, I'm a jewish kid from Brooklyn, I'm entitled. We don't sweat, we schvitz. So how is Tucker doing? To be honest?  Amazing. I have never seen a cat take to home life so fast and so seamlessly in my nearly 2 decades of cat ownership.  He's so integrated into the family it's like he's been here 4 years instead of 4 months. Needless to say, I share a TON of pics of the Tuck-Man (as Ashley likes to call him) on my personal Facebook.  Everyone seems to love seeing pics of Tucker, whether he's looking out the door or window, cuddling in my lap,  or having one of his daily "shit fits" that would make Tyler proud. Yet, despite the love of Tucker pictur...

Tucker & Sophie's film review: Kedi

Image
My colleagues at work know me to be....a major cat lover. A crazy cat lady? Whatever they call it, they all know....I love cats.  On my desk in my office are photos of: Tyler, Tiger, and Jackson.  On my wall is a calendar I made last year with photos of my cats. The background on my desktop of my MacBook Pro is a very recent pic of Tucker sleeping. Get the picture?  I'm a cat person. Anyway, one of my colleagues recently recommended I check out a little film called Kedi. "Watch the trailer," he said.  "It's right up your alley." Kedi?  That's Turkish for.....you guessed it. Cats. The trailer was....needless to say.....adorable. YouTube Red acquired the rights to stream this movie, which was in theaters in late 2016 early 2017. Apparently it's also the third highest grossing foreign language documentary ever. I mean, it's about cats, no wonder! With all this in mind, Tucker, Sophie, Ashley and I curled up together to check ou...

Tyler's 18th Birthday!

Image
Tyler would have been 18 this coming Friday, June 9th. Eighteen. Here comes the silly jokes.  Ready? Tyler would have been old enough to vote! Tyler would have been old enough to go to college! OK, I'm done.  Still, imagine Tyler in a voting booth? "Sir, do you have your ID?" "Meow?  Chirp?" I'm sure he would have voted for Hillary.  He was always quite liberal. At any rate, as I've said before: do I know his ACTUAL birth date? No, I do not. Since I adopted him, as readers of this blog know, on December 9th, of 2000, and I was told he was a 1.5 year old cat, I back-dated him to June 9th, 1999. Back-dated. What is he, a tax return?  I really shouldn't blog while drinking coffee with too much sugar.  WHEE! Happy eighteenth, old man. Hard to believe you're gone almost 3 years.  It's still not quite the same without you, but I know you're proud of the job Sophie is doing in your old slot as alpha cat.  You'...
